Audi is going to equip their A8 Saloon car with a satnav system that is capable of streaming Google Earth data. The A8 with Google Earth-based satnav is the first in a production car officially.
The satnav system of the Audi A8 has an internal hard disk drive and the system uses GPRS/EDGE connectivity that keeps the Google Earth data streamed to the system. The HDD of the system should be useful while the Internet connectivity is out.
The Google Earth allows the satnav to show buildings, landscapes as well as gradients and terrains in 3D. This Google Earth-based satnav will be installed in the 2010-model of Audi A8. No indication whether the system will go to some other lower-spec models.
